As veterinarians, our job is not just to treat—but to protect. We protect your pets from diseases, pain, and sometimes…from products that do more harm than good.
That’s why we always remind pet owners to choose only FDA-approved veterinary products. It’s not about brands. It’s about safety, science, and your pet’s well-being.
So, why is FDA approval important?
1. It ensures the product is proven to work.
Before any medication or vaccine gets FDA approval, it undergoes extensive studies to prove that it actually does what it claims. Whether it’s to prevent heartworm, cure an infection, or control ticks and fleas—an FDA-approved product has passed strict tests to confirm it’s effective.
2. It’s tested for safety—for your pet’s size, breed, and species.
What’s safe for a 60kg Labrador might not be safe for a 1kg kitten. The FDA requires drug companies to test their products on various animals, ages, and breeds before they approve it. If it’s FDA-approved, that means it’s been studied for your pet’s kind.
3. It’s manufactured under clean, controlled conditions.
FDA-approved products must be made in certified, high-standard facilities. This reduces the risk of contamination, wrong dosages, or fake ingredients. Would you risk that with your own medicine? Then don’t risk it with your pet’s.
4. It holds the company accountable.
If something goes wrong with an FDA-approved product—there’s a formal process. The FDA can investigate, recall, or penalize. But with unapproved or “underground” products? You’re on your own. That’s a risk no responsible vet or pet owner should take.

5. It’s not just about treatment—it’s about trust.
When we recommend an FDA-approved product, it’s not just based on experience. It’s backed by years of global research, review boards, and scientific scrutiny. That’s why we choose these products for our own pets, too.
A Final Word to Pet Parents:
We understand that cheaper options online, from tiangge stalls, or unofficial sellers can be tempting. But when it comes to your pet’s health, quality isn’t optional—it’s critical.
Please don’t just look for what’s available. Ask what’s proven, tested, and safe. When in doubt, ask your vet. Your pet deserves no less.
