Veterinarians and pet owners may soon notice a new-looking NexGard Spectra® on clinic shelves.
Instead of the familiar 2–3.5 kg pack, the smallest available pack is now labeled 1.35–3.5 kg. Because of this change, some may immediately wonder if the product is fake or counterfeit.
The answer is no.
This is the new, genuine NexGard Spectra® that is now available in the Philippines.
The product continues to be manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health France and imported by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Philippines. While the packaging has been updated, the trusted combination of active ingredients remains the same:
- Afoxolaner for the treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations.
- Milbemycin oxime for heartworm prevention and the treatment and control of selected intestinal parasites.

What Changed?
The most important update is the approved body weight range.
Previous smallest pack:
2.0–3.5 kg
Current smallest pack:
1.35–3.5 kg
This gives veterinarians an approved dosing option for dogs weighing as little as 1.35 kg, provided they also meet the minimum age requirement stated on the product label.
Does a New Package Mean It’s Fake?
Absolutely not.
It is common for pharmaceutical companies to update product packaging or revise approved label claims after regulatory approval. These updates may include changes in weight ranges, label design, or packaging layout while maintaining the same high standards of quality, safety, and efficacy.
Before assuming a product is counterfeit, always check where it was purchased.
