Dear Pet Owner: While You Were Scared, I Was Fighting Beside You

A love letter from your Veterinarian

Dear Pet Owner,

I saw the fear in your eyes.

You were shaking while holding your fur baby — breathing fast, anorexic, eyes losing their light.

And I know you were scared. I know you felt helpless.

But do you know what I was feeling?

I was scared too.

Scared of what I might find and I may not be able to find.

Scared of what I might not be able to fix.

Scared that time was already running out the moment you walked in that door.

But I stood there anyway.

Calm. Focused. Doing my job.

Because that’s what you needed from me. That’s what your pet needed from me.

You asked, “Doc, sure ka ba?”

You hesitated at the blood tests.

You asked if you could get a second opinion.

And I understood — you were trying to protect someone you love.

But what I wish I could’ve said — what I wanted to scream — was this:

“I’m not your enemy. I’m the one standing between your pet and death.”

This Is More Than a Job

This isn’t just a job for me.

This is my calling. My curse. My promise.

I don’t go to work. I go to war.

Every single day, I go to battle for lives that can’t speak.

When you questioned my recommendations, it wasn’t pride that hurt — it was pain.

Because while you were doubting my choices, I was praying for enough time.

What You See… What I See…

You see a fee.

I see a chance.

You see a vet.

I see a soul who has broken down in the comfort room too many times to count.

Who has whispered “I’m sorry” to lifeless bodies.

Who has fought to revive a patient long after others would have stopped.

This isn’t about money.

This is about trust.

Because when you bring your beloved animal to me, you’re not just bringing a “case.”

You’re handing me a piece of your heart.

And believe it or not —

Every piece you hand me… becomes part of mine.

Let Me Fight Beside You

So please.

Next time you’re scared, next time you’re angry, next time you’re unsure —

Let me in.

Let me fight beside you.

Let me give your pet every shot at life.

I became a Vet for this very reason.

To fight for them — especially when they can’t fight for themselves.

And yes, I know…

You love them.

But please remember this —

So do I.
