Monetize Yourself
By Dr. Geoff Carullo, DVM, FPCCP, DPCVSCA
Let’s stop pretending.
Being a veterinarian is fulfilling — but fulfillment does not pay the bills.
You can love animals deeply and still end up exhausted, underpaid, and questioning why you chose this life. Not because you failed… but because you were taught to sacrifice endlessly and call it passion.
Here’s the truth nobody likes to say out loud:
A veterinary degree that only earns when you are physically present will eventually break you.
We are trained to think saving lives is enough. That asking for more is being greedy. That suffering is part of the job.
It’s not.
Monetizing yourself doesn’t mean choosing money over ethics. It means finally admitting that your knowledge, judgment, and experience have value beyond clinic hours.
If your income stops when you stop working, you don’t have a career — you have a treadmill.
And treadmills don’t move you forward.
You didn’t survive vet school just to barely survive life.
Monetize yourself.
Not to become rich.
But to stay sane.
To stay in the profession.
To last.
