Sometimes, the biggest improvement in a laboratory is not another machine.
Sometimes, it is the table beneath them.
For our laboratory, I did not want an ordinary stainless-steel workbench. I wanted something designed around the way we actually work, the equipment we use, the wires we constantly deal with, the heat generated underneath, and even the small frustrations that accumulate during a busy day.
So we had one custom-built by Metalluria.

Facebook: METALLURA They handled our bespoke stainless-steel laboratory table, including the cabinetry, drawers, perforated ventilation panels, and other custom details designed specifically around the needs of our laboratory.
And almost every detail was intentional.
The main structure is stainless steel, including the frame and soft-close drawers. The drawers were a little firm at the beginning, but that is part of the solid construction and hardware used.
But instead of using stainless steel for the countertop, we chose German White engineered stone.
Why?
Because stainless steel can occasionally carry or transmit small electrical charges from laboratory equipment. We had experienced those annoying little shocks before. For a work surface surrounded by analyzers, voltage regulators, computers, and other electrical equipment, I wanted something non-porous, durable, easy to disinfect, and electrically less troublesome.

We even performed our own very simple test.
Soy sauce. Overnight.
If the countertop could survive that without staining, it would probably survive the realities of a veterinary laboratory.
It did.
Then came another problem: the wires.

Its circular opening allows power cords and equipment cables to pass neatly through the countertop instead of running visibly across the work surface. The overlapping stainless-steel cover partially closes the opening while still accommodating multiple wires, helping maintain a cleaner, more organized appearance. Unlike standard plastic grommets, the stainless-steel construction complements the rest of the bespoke laboratory table and provides a more durable, easy-to-clean finish suitable for a veterinary diagnostic workspace.

A custom-fabricated, hinged perforated stainless-steel panel conceals the voltage regulators, power strips, and electrical wiring beneath the laboratory counter. The perforations allow continuous airflow and heat dissipation while keeping cables and equipment out of sight. The panel can be opened easily for inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, creating a cleaner, safer, and less cluttered laboratory workspace.
Laboratory equipment produces an incredible amount of cable clutter. Add voltage regulators, plugs, adapters, and power supplies and suddenly even an expensive laboratory can start looking messy.
So we designed the lower compartment using perforated stainless steel.
The regulators and wiring could be concealed underneath, but the perforations still allow ventilation so heat does not become trapped inside.
- Less clutter.
- Better airflow.
- Cleaner lines.
Even the grommets for the cables were customized so the wires could disappear neatly into the structure instead of hanging across the work surface.
And look closely at the legs.
They are not unnecessarily bulky or boxed all the way to the floor. The design leaves the floor underneath accessible, which matters tremendously in a clinical laboratory. Dirt, hair, dust, and biological debris love inaccessible corners. A beautiful cabinet that cannot be cleaned underneath eventually becomes a sanitation problem.
Here, the floor remains visible and reachable.
That is what I appreciate about bespoke fabrication.

Every drawer, opening, grommet, perforation, material, and clearance exists because there was a practical reason for it.
