March 26–27, 2026 quietly became one of the most interesting dates in Philippine veterinary education.
On those same dates, two major surgical learning events were announced—both credible, both high-level, both clearly intended for veterinarians who take surgery seriously.
On one side is the 2nd PCVS-CA Veterinary Surgery Masterclass, organized by the Philippine College of Veterinary Surgeons – Companion Animals (PCVS-CA), featuring internationally respected surgeons Dr. Cormac O’Brolchain, Dr. Abbie Tipler, and Dr. Patrick Maguire, to be held at Novotel Manila, Quezon City.
On the other is the PAHA Orthopedic Workshop Series, organized by the Philippine Animal Hospital Association (PAHA), headlined by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Glyde, running from March 26–30, 2026 at Crowne Plaza Ortigas and the PAHA Center in Marikina.
Same dates.
Similar audience.
Closely related surgical focus.
The question naturally follows: is this a windfall for surgery-focused veterinarians, or a signal that alignment now matters more than ever?
A Good Problem to Have
First, this must be said clearly: this is a good problem.
It reflects a profession that has matured enough to attract multiple international surgical authorities at the same time. It signals demand for advanced, structured, and serious surgical education. Years ago, Filipino veterinarians waited long periods for a single international lecture. Today, we are choosing between world-class options.
That alone speaks volumes about how far the profession has come.
The Practical Reality
At the same time, most veterinarians operate within real constraints—clinic schedules, staffing limitations, leave approvals, and financial considerations.
Two premium surgical events happening simultaneously means many will be forced to choose only one, not because of preference, but because of practicality. The concern is not competition between organizations. The concern is fragmentation of learning in a relatively small professional ecosystem where coordination can significantly amplify impact.
A Call for Future Alignment
This is not criticism.
Both events are excellent.
Both organizing bodies are respected.
Both speaker line-ups are unquestionably world-class.
It is simply a reminder that as specialty colleges and professional associations grow stronger, alignment—particularly in scheduling—becomes a shared responsibility. Early coordination or a unified professional calendar, ideally guided by national leadership, could allow veterinarians to attend more programs, gain broader exposure, and grow collectively without unnecessary trade-offs.
